Drive thru heaven or hell depending on your perspective...

America has a drive thru culture that you wouldn't believe. 'Restaurants' are built without dining facilities, so their primary purpose is drive thru! Check these gems out:

Good Times Burgers and Frozen Custards

The walk up 'kiosk' is surrounded by a drive through and there is some outdoor seating

They serve doggy frozen custards!

The outdoor seating is lovely this time of year but not handy when there is 6 inches of snow

Then there is the ice cream shop drive thru, that's right this one is a dessert only drive thru! And again it is just outdoor tables and a drive thru.

Dairy Queen

Sonic

Sonic is the very epitome of the American drive thru culture, this place was clearly designed to be the ultimate drive thru experience!

There is a drive thru or individual service bays

And lots of them !!!!!

If you pull up to one of these individual service bays you have your own menu board and can take your time deciding on what you want. When you are ready you press the ready button to let them know you want to order. You use your credit/debit card to pay here as well and then your food is delivered to your car!! And you can eat it there or drive away OMG.

They may not do doggy frozen custards here but they have over 25 flavors of shakes! And supposedly a million drink combinations with soda, iced tea etc.

And of course they have the usual fast food chain drive thrus like in Australia; Burger King, Maccas, KFC, etc. But they have heaps more as well like Wendy's or Chick-fil-A.

Drive thrus aren't just for food either:

The drive up ATM machines are great when it is snowing and you don't want to get out of your car! I still can't help but think it is a little ridiculous each time I use one though.

or the drive thru pharmacy even, I get a phone call asking if I want to fill my script, I press 1 for yes, then enter my birth date and 24hrs later it is ready for me to pick up at the drive thru window LOL

Seriously these Americans are in the process of perfecting the concept of drive thru.
What will be next drive thru toilets?

  1. I'm curious ... do they have a Tim Horton's in Denver? Because if they have a Tim Horton's drive-thru, then I'm seriously, insanely jealous right now...
