The 100yr flood...

Denver has unpredictable weather at the best of times because it is located in an area that can be affected by the forces from various directions. But very few people expected the torrential downpours that Colorado has had for the last 6 days.

Parts of Colorado received up to 21.7 inches of rain!!!!

Brett got a long weekend at home after 25% of the buildings on his college campus were damaged by the water. He was lucky his dorm room didn't flood, but many other students weren't so lucky!

When it began to rain mid last week it just seemed like any other rainy day.

But the downpour barely ceased for 5 days, this is the water outside our balcony:

And at our local pizza place across the road:

Keep in mind that Denver is renowned for statistically having 300 sunny days a year, so 5 or 6 rainy days in a row is pretty much unheard of here and the locals are in disbelief as much as we are!

And of course we have Matt's parents visiting at the moment so after many days trapped indoors we have been eager to get back to sightseeing and exploring Colorado, but choosing to go to Colorado Springs yesterday was interesting, I have never seen it shrouded in low cloud like this!

So after a coffee and some fudge (the best I've ever had) in Manitou Springs, we headed to an antique mall to pass some time on a wet day. Pa Pete looks particularly fetching in this hat I reckon:

A bit leprechaunish?

And Rosie equally so in this one:

Or this one:

I could've bought an actual bear skin for $450!

Or a few of theses were around that price as well, however the dearest was $1200!

But today the sun was shining and the oldies were bike riding so I took Ebony and Henry to the dog park to enjoy a run around off the leash:

Then we did a 1 to 2 mile hike:

Ebony got worn out as usual:

So Colorado is rebuilding and recovering from rain like I have never seen before, despite growing up in an area that floods, but the sun is shining which really helps!

  1. Glad you guys got out and about. We always like visiting antique malls. There is a place on Colorado Blvd that has some wonder french onion soup served in a bread bowl that we like to indulge in. We used to go there more often with my MIL lived in Colorado Springs.
