Winter Play

Today was perfect weather to go hiking. It was 18 degrees Celsius with a little cloud cover and a light breeze to keep us cool.
In anticipation of today we went to an outdoors store yesterday and bought some Ice Trekkers

The wonderful inventions just stretch on over your hiking shoes to provide additional traction when hiking on potentially icy trails.

So here are mine before I pulled them on:

Putting them on only takes a minute:

And hey presto TRACTION!

I got the heavy duty ones for hiking

Matt got the simpler ones because he has less time to hike but he was still impressed with his
So we were ready for the snow and ice that was on the trail at Mt Falcon today. We chose to do the Tower Trail then Devil's Elbow trail both of which were spectacular!

You can see in this next pic why traction is soooo important we had 20kgs of dogs pulling us down those snowy and icy hills:

Occasionally we let them off the leash for a play, but Ebony didn't venture far from us because the snow was as deep as her off the trail LOL.

Hiking in the snow is magnificent! But there were some snow drifts that were quite deep, check out this one mid thigh deep next to the trail:

After 3.5 miles Ebony got tired and needed to be carried the last 100 yards uphill to the car, but that is nothing unusual for her, she loves hiking soooo much that she runs around wearing herself out for hours and then just gives up, CUTE!

Of course a few hours hiking makes you hungry so we headed to Morrison a little town on the outskirts of Denver for burgers and shakes at a place where dogs are allowed on the terrace. We got to admire some lovely Indian motorcycles whilst we ate, apparently this is a bikie hangout on the weekends, pretty cool actually:

The puppies enjoyed their meat pattie at the burger place but were pleased to be back in the car and headed for home... until we started running their bath to wash off all the mud!!!

But after a big day out and a bath they were ready to snuggle up for the rest of the afternoon:
