Relocation Planning
We arrived in the USA in late November 2012. A lot has changed in our lives since then. One big change the last couple of years is hubby Matt now works from home. So we've decided it's time to begin planning to relocate back to Australia as he can work remotely from there. Being in America is no longer necessary and now that the COVID pandemic is easing and Western Australia's borders are open we can't wait to go 'home'.
But... It is a big thing emigrating. It takes a lot of planning. The biggest part of the planning is moving our two dogs Henry and Zoe to Australia. There's no rabies in Australia so their repatriation requires quarantine. And their rabies vaccination and clear rabies blood test must be done at least 180 days before flying into Australia. Yes you read that right.
Zoe's rabies was done last year so she just needs a test. But Henry's was due in November 2022 so we had to get it done early. Here he is at the vet waiting for his shot on Monday. Now we have to wait 30 days then get rabies tests done for him and Zoe. Once the approved lab receives the samples the 180 day countdown begins. The export permit they will get lasts a year.
Our tentative plan is to ship them in early January 2023 and for me to get to Perth in time to receive them once they clear quarantine and are flown to Perth.
We just have to hope no new COVID variants interfere with our plans.
Our third dog Ebony is now blind, hearing impaired and on heart medication after a bad bout of congestive heart failure last year. We don't expect her to live beyond this year. 😰
