Repatriation Planning
In February 2022 we decided it was our year to begin repatriation planning so that we can return to Australia to live in early 2023.
We have been busy ticking these things off an epic list:
- Dog rabies vaccines and titer tests for Henry and Zoe (Ebony passed away in June 2022) ✔️
- Australian dog import permits ✔️
- Booking quarantine for the dogs on arrival to Australia ✔️
- Removalist quote ✔️
- Booking our flights ✔️
- Decluttering and organizing our whole house to determine what goes in the 40' shipping container ✔️
- Getting rid of excess belongings by donating to ARC and Goodwill ✔️
- Giving away unwanted large furniture items on Facebook Marketplace ✔️
- Leasing a temporary apartment for 6 months so we can sell our Colorado house ✔️
And today we undertook the task of moving some furniture that isn't going to Australia into that apartment:
The U-Haul van pretty easily fitted our stuff:
- 2 desks
- 1 office chair
- 4 dining chairs
- 2 IKEA poang armchairs
- 2 slipper chairs
- 1 small bookshelf
- 3 lamps
The apartment now feels very well set up for a temporary living space:
We gave away our king size bed a month ago and are sleeping on 2 twin mattresses pushed together, we won't move those to the apartment until we're ready to sleep there. At the moment we are still sleeping at the house to continue the decluttering, organizing and prepping the house for sale. That job will be much easier now that all this furniture has been moved out so we can focus on organizing the stuff that is going to Australia.
